Polar MD Review for March 2025 | Best Teeth Whiteners (3)

  • Price: $69 for 60 applications
  • Method of application: Carbamide peroxide gel, one-size-fits-all tray, LED light
  • Duration: 15 minutes
  • Results: 12 shades lighter in 7 days, maximum results in 2-3 weeks of daily use
  • Shipping: Free for most customers
  • Refunds/returns: 30 days on unused products only

Polar MD is a teeth whitener designed to erase deep surface stains without any sensitivity. It uses carbamide peroxide gel (though we're not sure in what concentration: we've seen both 18% and 35% mentioned in the product literature...) with a one-size-fits-all mouthpiece and an LED light to get your smile looking whiter and brighter.

Instructions are less than clear

How do you use Polar MD to whiten your teeth? Start by brushing your teeth. After that, this company seems to be at odds with itself: the directions in the description say that you apply the whitening gel to the mouthpiece trays, but everywhere else (including the demo videos) it says to use the pens to "paint” the gel onto your teeth. (We'd recommend the latter, since the trays are one-size-fits-all and may not make contact with all of the surfaces of your teeth.) You'll have to set a timer for 15 minutes; the LED light doesn't turn off automatically. When the time is up, rinse out your mouth and the mouthpiece.

Enough whitening applications for a year

According to the company, you can expect up to 12 shades lighter teeth in just 7 days of consistent use, with maximum results after 2-3 weeks of daily use. Your kit will come with 60 applications: enough to wash-rinse-repeat (literally) several times over the course of a year.

You'll pay almost $70

But, Polar MD is priced accordingly at $69. That's nearly three times as expensive as some rival teeth whiteners on our list, but those kits usually have just 20-25 applications. At least Polar MD will have free shipping, for most customers.

Poor reputation

Polar MD is offered by LeVaye' Cosmetics, a company with a disappointing "B-” grade from the BBB. However, that not-impressive grade was for receiving just one complaint in the last three years, and it was regarding an eyelash serum also offered by LeVaye'. Unfortunately, though, the reviews for Polar MD are unenthusiastic: many customers say that the LED light's performance gets erratic after just a few uses, and some complain that the way users have to bite down into the trays makes the light turn off from the pressure of their lips.

Not very customer-centric

Plus, Polar MD doesn't seem to have a great refund policy. As far as we could tell, you only have 30 days to send back your teeth whitener kit, and it doesn't look like you're eligible if you've actually tried the product. You could reach out to LeVaye' and ask, but there's no toll-free number provided to do so. That's another disadvantage, when you compare Polar MD to its higher-ranked rivals.

A teeth whitening system we'd skip

Our overall impression of Polar MD? Sketchy. With conflicting product information and usage instructions, it doesn't exactly scream "professional teeth whitening” or "guaranteed results”. You've got a lot of options to choose from on our list, ones that have earned hundreds (or even thousands) of 5-star reviews. We'd recommend skipping Polar MD in favor of one of those higher-ranked teeth whiteners on our list.

What is the Best Way to Whiten Your Teeth?

A bright, white smile can make a big difference in your confidence, and with so many over-the-counter teeth whitening options available, you don't have to visit a dentist to achieve it. From whitening strips to LED kits, there's a product for nearly every budget and lifestyle. But with all the choices out there, how do you know which one is right for you?

Understanding the different methods, their effectiveness, and key features - like customized trays - can help you get the best results. Most at-home teeth whiteners use either hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide as the active ingredient. These bleaching agents break down stains on your enamel, lifting discoloration caused by coffee, tea, wine, smoking, or just the natural aging process.

Teeth Whitener FAQ

How does teeth whitening work?

Many people have stains on their teeth from coffee, cola, and even just day-to-day foods. Most teeth whiteners work by combining oxygen from the air and carbon in the dentin layer of the teeth, which breaks apart any colored molecules still stuck to the teeth (and which aren't removed by regular dental cleanings). Some teeth whitening systems use a whitening gel in combination with an LED light appliance for increased effectiveness, while others only use topical application of liquids or strips.

How long will it take to whiten my teeth?

The process itself usually takes anywhere from a few minutes to an hour, depending on which system you choose. How long will it take to see a whiter smile? Some teeth whiteners produce noticeably brighter teeth within one or two applications, while others take a week or more of regular applications.

Does teeth whitening hurt?

Teeth whitening can result in sensitivity in the teeth and gums. If you're experiencing sensitivity, you can shorten your time during each application or use the product less often than recommended. There are also special toothpastes that can ease sensitivity. But, the whitening process itself is rarely painful, no matter which method you choose.

Can using a teeth whitener damage my teeth?

It is possible for teeth whiteners to damage tooth enamel when not used properly. However, if you follow the manufacturer's directions carefully, there should be no risk to your teeth. (In other words, don't try to whiten your teeth faster than recommended!)

What's the difference between professional teeth whiteners and the DIY kinds?

Not much! Most in-office teeth whiteners use the same solutions (hydrogen peroxide, carbamide peroxide) and send you home with trays to use for maintenance that are exactly like what you'd buy to use on your own in the first place. Yes, having your teeth whitened at the dentist's office gives you the reassurance that you're not overdoing it, but you're paying a lot more for it too.

How long does teeth whitening last?

That depends on you! If you avoid smoking and teeth-staining foods and drinks (like coffee and blueberries!), use a straw whenever possible, and keep up with your regular dental cleanings, your pearly-white smile should last a long time - several months to a year or more.

Are teeth whiteners expensive?

At-home teeth whitening systems are surprisingly affordable! Some of the most effective products cost less than $50 for 20 applications (and you'd pay four times that much for a single in-office whitening application from your dentist).

Can I get a refund if I'm not satisfied with the results?

Most manufacturers of teeth whitening products offer a satisfaction guarantee of at least 30 days, giving you plenty of time to try it out and see if you get results. Just be aware that some products' fine print says that you can only get a refund if the product is unused (not very helpful, we know).

Continued from above...

Some products rely solely on these ingredients, while others add LED lights to supposedly speed up the process (though the jury is out on whether these lights provide a noticeable difference). The next thing to know is how these whiteners are applied to your teeth.

One of the most well-known application methods is whitening strips. These thin, flexible strips are coated with a whitening gel and adhere directly to your teeth. They're one of the most affordable and widely available options, but since they're a one-size-fits-all solution, they might not reach every part of your teeth evenly.

You may also consider whitening toothpaste or rinses. These are the least expensive options, using mild abrasives or low concentrations of peroxide to gradually whiten over time. However, they won't give you dramatic results.

The most common approach we've found for DIY teeth whitening are gel and tray systems. These kits use a peroxide-based gel applied to a tray that fits over your teeth. Some are pre-formed, while others allow for a more custom fit. While the ready-made trays are often less expensive, a major downside of one-size-fits-all whitening trays is that they don't conform perfectly to your teeth. This can lead to uneven whitening, wasted gel, or even gum irritation if the whitening solution seeps out. If you already use a retainer or a clear aligner (like Invisalign), you might be able to use it with a whitening gel instead of buying a separate system. A custom-fit tray holds the gel against all the surfaces of your teeth, ensuring a more even and efficient whitening process.

Ready to get your brightest, whitest smile but not sure where to start? Here are a few ways you can decide which option will be the best for you:

  • Effectiveness. Does the product contain a high enough concentration of peroxide for noticeable results? What do users say about how quickly they saw their teeth get whiter?
  • Comfort. Is the formula gentle enough to avoid gum irritation or sensitivity? How often do customers say that they needed to take a break from using the teeth whiteners because their teeth started to feel sensitive (especially to hot/cold foods and drinks)?
  • Customization. Does it include a moldable tray or work with an existing retainer? Or is it a one-size-fits-all approach?
  • Convenience. How long does each session take, and how many are required? Will the system disrupt your daily routine or fit right in?
  • Price vs. value. Are you getting professional-level results? Will you need to buy more than one teeth whitener kit to get the smile you want?

Teeth whitening can be an easy and affordable way to boost your smile, but choosing the right product makes all the difference. To help you get the best results, the experts at Top Consumer Reviews have reviewed and ranked some of today's most popular teeth whiteners. With the right approach, you can easily get a noticeably whiter smile too!
